Armenia, August 1, 2018. According to the World Health Organization, the WHO, hepatitis B and C affect 325 million people worldwide and produce about 1,034,000 deaths a year. These infections are chronic and may not show symptoms for years, leading to late diagnosis and the most serious outcome is liver cancer.
Up to now in 2018, in Armenia, have been reported by information systems 33 cases of the disease. In the previous year, there were 48. The highest number of people affected is men.
Different actions are conducted by the health unit around the prevention of this disease in a vulnerable population, trying to conduct this group rapid tests for hepatitis that help to determine the presence of the disease at the beginning. Through the listening center, 124 rapid tests were applied, of which 60 were positive for hepatitis C. Subsequently, these patients were sent to their respective PS for a confirmatory examination.
Hepatitis can be contracted in different ways: the first is perinatal, from mother to child during delivery; the second concerns the shared use of items such as syringes or sharps; or through unprotected bad.
The main protective measures to prevent the occurrence of hepatitis are related to the vaccine against hepatitis, which is included in the regular diet for children up to the 39, age 6 years. It is recommended that, at adulthood, reinforcement be applied in a special way to reinforce the previous vaccine. Likewise, protection is needed during bad, the use of condoms and a single partner. It is also not recommended to share items such as toothbrushes, razors and avoid the use of syringes between 2 people or more.
