Colorado Now Shares Data on Groundbreaking COVID-19 Cases with the Public

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) updated its COVID-19 website on Wednesday to include new data on vaccine advances. The vaccine breakthrough is about a person who is fully vaccinated and develops the disease they were vaccinated against.

Because no vaccine is 100 percent effective, health officials expect to see cases among fully vaccinated individuals. Right now, they see this happening a lot more in people 80 and over.

The Ministry of Health also mentioned that it has seen a slight decrease in the effectiveness of vaccines in some cases. They say that as the percentage of the population fully vaccinated against COVID-19 increases over time, the number of fully vaccinated cases is also expected to increase. However, the vaccine is still the best way to fight the virus.

Colorado’s top doctors are finding COVID-19 to have a pretty big impact on college students. In the past two weeks, the highest rate of transmission has occurred among children aged 6 to 11. These children are not yet eligible for vaccination.

For children 12 and older eligible for the vaccine, the state epidemiologist says Colorado ranks well compared to other states. As of July, more than 56% of Coloradans aged 12 to 17 had received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Health officials say the lowest transmission rate right now is among those five and under. They did not speak of any potential generalized mask warrant.
