ENGLEWOOD, Colo .– Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller is under police investigation in Parker, Colo.
Southeastern Denver Suburban Police confirmed on Friday that Miller was under investigation, saying “If the investigation determines a crime has been committed, charges will be referred to the prosecutor’s office for review “.
“We are aware of an investigation involving Von Miller and are in the process of collecting more information,” the Broncos said in a statement.
Miller did not respond to requests for comment.
Miller missed the 2020 season after sustaining an ankle injury in training days before the opener.
The 31-year-old has largely stayed away from problems off the field since 2013, when he was suspended for six games for violating league drug addiction policy and a warrant for judgment was issued that summer after failing to appear in court for several traffic violations.
In August Miller said that what happened in 2013 “really made me take a look, like a real look, like you’re looking at yourself in the mirror and you’re really looking at what’s there. -low.”
The Broncos had previously faced a decision regarding Miller’s future with the team. He’s heading into the final season of the six-year, $ 114.5 million deal he signed in 2016. The Broncos have until the eve of the league’s start of the new year in March to pick. the option that would commit the 2021 season to the deal and secure Miller’s base salary of $ 7 million.
If the Broncos released Miller, they would face a dead money load of $ 4.125 million over the salary cap for the 2021 season, although that is far less than Miller’s $ 22.125 million cap if the Broncos chose the option.
