The Columbus Crew is in the process of finalizing a name change that includes removing “Crew” from the official name with a new crest, according to sources at The Athletic. An announcement regarding the change could be made as early as this week, with a source saying an official word is expected “in the next few days.”
Columbus, a founding member of MLS, launched a new 2014 badge and “brand identity” under former owner Anthony Precourt, keeping the name “Crew” but adding an “SC” and dropping their original logo. The current crest – a black and yellow round shield with patterns on the inner circle – has remained unchanged since.
