San Diego Comic-Con was virtual again this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, bringing together stars, directors and artists via online panels. It seems likely that fans and organizers will be excited to return to an in-person rally in 2022. But the online version of the convention has released a number of new movie and TV trailers nonetheless, including some look attractive. Here’s a look at some of what has been posted.

Dexter: new blood

Dexter, the show starring Michael C. Hall as a murderer who only kills murderers, ended in 2013 and Dexter: New Blood picks up 10 years later. Dexter has moved to Iron Lake, New York, where he runs a store which, as the preview reveals, sells plenty of tempting-edged knives. The show will air on Showtime on November 7.

Army of thieves

Army of Thieves follows Netflix’s Army of the Dead, in which a motley team of characters decide that a zombie apocalypse is the perfect time to pull off a casino heist in Las Vegas. Army of Thieves is therefore a sort of prequel to this film, focusing on fan favorite character Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer). It takes place years before Army of the Dead, but the zombie outbreak is already starting. Nathalie Emmanuel, who stole hearts as doomed Missandei in Game of Thrones, also plays. The film will be on Netflix, but there is no release date yet.

Chucky, the TV series

Chucky the killer doll from the Child’s Play series always wants to play. Chucky creator Don Mancini is bringing his murderous red-haired toy to a TV series that airs on Syfy and USA Network on October 12. According to the trailer, misfit teenager Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur) purchases the original Chucky doll at a garage sale and starts all the killing again. Brad Dourif, who plays Chucky in the movies, is back with the voice of the Creepy Toy, so fans should feel right at home.

Doctor Who

The Doctor Who trailer is only 38 seconds long, so don’t expect a lot of reveal. But on the bright side, doesn’t this short trailer mean spoilers? Jodie Whittaker is back as the thirteenth (and first female) doctor.

The walking dead

The zombie apocalypse takes an awfully long time, but the final season is finally here, and Daryl and Carol continue to kick the walking dead. Here is the trailer for Season 11 of Mankind’s Battle Against the Living Dead. The Walking Dead returns August 22 on AMC.

Slasher: flesh and blood

What if Succession meets the most dangerous game? The fourth season of the Slasher horror anthology series arrives in Shudder on August 12. Iconic horror director David Cronenberg stars as a rich and creepy man who asks his family to kill each other in an attempt to earn his fortune. Someone call a family therapist, stat!

The day of the Dead

Not enough zombies in your life? Day of the Dead is based on the 1985 George A. Romero film, the third in the iconic zombie film trilogy that began with 1968 Night of the Living Dead and reimagined zombies for generations to come. The preview includes a scene where zombies go wild at a wedding and another where the corpse at a funeral tries to come back. Circle of life! It will air on SyFy in October.
