FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Region Community Center has received a big boost. According to information provided by the Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont, the Rosen family, the Krahmer family and the MCHS have teamed up to pledge $ 4.5 million in upfront private funding to kick off the fundraising campaign for the construction and the operation of the proposed community center.
Donations will go to a newly established non-profit community center foundation. These initial donor commitments depend on the construction of the community center and focus on supporting YMCA operations.
Amy Long, MCHS administrator at Fairmont and a member of the community center committee, said the partnership has been in the works for a long time.
“The efforts of the community center committee date back to before 2017, and the MCHS has always been present in the effort”, she said. “This is something that Mayo wants to support, as a large employer and also as a health care provider. We want our community to continue to thrive and we are committed to improving the quality of life.
“The community center offers many different programming possibilities and these focus on the vitality of the community as well as on health and well-being. It is therefore a natural partnership for us.
“We are delighted to play a significant role in establishing this community center. This is very necessary for Fairmont and the surrounding area.
The Rosen family pledged $ 3 million, of which $ 2 million was earmarked for construction contributions and $ 1 million as matching funds for public donations to the community center. The Krahmer family has pledged $ 1 million for a combination of construction costs and the creation of an operating fund focused on swimming programs and operations, especially inclusive programs, such as swimming lessons for all. ages. MCHS pledged $ 500,000 for construction contributions and donated the land, estimated at $ 220,400, where the facility will be located.
Fred Krahmer was also available to share his thoughts on the importance of the community center.

The vision for the Fairmont Area Community Center includes a YMCA, which will have a sports complex, gymnasium, track, indoor aquatic center, community halls, fitness and group exercise studios, and various programming possibilities. An ice rink is also planned which will be supported and operated by the Fairmont Hockey Association. It is expected that the YMCA and the association will work together to operate the Fairmont Area Community Center.
