Hours later, he was informed that the family had been successfully evacuated.

“I was jumping up and down because it had been a long time since they had to get to a safe house because the airport was too dangerous, so I was just very nervous not to hear anything,” he said. at the station.

Gustafson did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday evening.
The chaotic U.S. withdrawal left U.S. citizens and their Afghan allies in panic as they attempted to reach Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport before the evacuation deadline. The facility was surrounded by Taliban checkpoints, and activists reportedly beat, shot and harassed people trying to reach the facility, witnesses told Fox News.
Many nongovernmental organizations, veterans groups and volunteers have worked with the Pentagon and the State Department to help people reach the airport before the last U.S. flight departs on Monday – a day before the deadline. evacuation of August 31.

A California school district had several families of students in Afghanistan amid the chaotic withdrawal. Seven out of eight of them are out, the Cajon Valley School District announced Tuesday – but it is not known where the last one is.
In the cases of California and Connecticut, many students had gone to Afghanistan over the summer to visit family – then the chaotic withdrawal played out and left them scrambling to return home.
