Connie Chung talks about her work with Barbara Walters Diane Sawyer

You never know exactly what the working environment will be like in any job. For former news anchor Connie Chung, her experience working at ABC News was far from perfect due to the environment created by two of her coworkers – and they might not be the coworkers you expected. In an interview with Andrew Goldman for Los Angeles MagazineChung’s “The Originals” podcast shared that while working alongside her future celebrity reporters Barbara Walters and Diane Sawyer, she felt like she was “always playing a mole game.” “I lifted my head and one of them would have a hammer and go beat, and put me back in my little hole, ”Chung said in an excerpt from the interview, which is now doing the rounds on Twitter.

Chung was initially optimistic about joining ABC News with Walters and Sawyer at first, believing that they would be able to form kinship as women. “Oh, it’s gonna be awesome,” Chung said. “These will be three women who will get along well.” But things quickly turned south, with women forced to fight over interviews and airtime, with Chung claiming Goldman’s speculation that the environment was “like a shark tank.” When asked what it felt like to have a professional hairstyle from Walters and Sawyer, Chung replied, “It’s not unlike what Tonya Harding did to Nancy Kerrigan.” Yikes. From whack-a-mole to shark tanks to Me Tonya cosplay, it seemed very difficult to navigate an office full of bosses in the mid-70s. Sigh, looks like the sisters were really doing it for themselves at the time.
