Connie came into life on October 8, 1932 in Mason City, Iowa, daughter of Thomas and Marietta Whalen. She entered eternal life in the Kingdom of God on August 20, 2021, from the remembrance care of Naples with the care of the Avow Hospice in Naples with her husband Richard C. LaVelle (Casey) by her side.

Connie grew up in Fort. Dodge, Iowa, where she attended Sacred Heart School for 12 years, graduating in 1950. During the 12 years, she was a classmate of Casey. They started dating in high school, married in October 1952, and lived together 68 wonderful and fulfilling years.

Connie is survived by her husband Casey; son John (Shannon); 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces / nephews in his family; and 21 nieces / nephews in Casey’s family. Connie was predeceased by children Mark and Anne Marie; parents Tom and Marietta; sister Sharlene and her husband John Remmel; the parents of her husband; 3 sisters-in-law; and 2 brothers-in-law.

Connie lived her married life in Fort. Dodge, Iowa City, Evanston and Palatine (Chicagoland), Whitefish Bay (Milwaukee), Oakton and Falls Church in Northern Virginia and Bonita Springs (Pelican Landing), Florida.

Connie loved and engaged people and always made lifelong friends wherever she was. Connie lived God’s command to “love your neighbor as yourself”. Coming from work, school, whatever, Casey and the kids never went back to a house, it was always a house full of love and compassion. Connie humbly asked for her daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend to be remembered. This is why this beautiful lady will be missed so much by everyone.

Connie bravely fought the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease for fifteen years. The family would like to thank the Renaissance staff at Bonita Springs Terraces, Memory Care of Naples and Avow Hospice, Naples, for Connie’s kind and compassionate care over the past eight years; especially Eli and Marie.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201.
