BISMARCK, ND (AP) – The North Dakota Department of Health reported an increase in COVID-19-related deaths and hospitalizations on Saturday, with officials facing a temporary delay in vaccine shipments.
Health officials reported 85 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the state’s pandemic total to 99,228. Two more deaths would have brought the North Dakota pandemic total to 1,437 deaths and 97,002 recoveries.
The death toll was at its highest level last November with 498 dead. That figure fell to 282 in December and 76 in January. So far, in February, 11 people have lost their lives from the coronavirus.
Thirty-nine people are currently hospitalized for COVID-19 including 8 in the intensive care unit, according to the state’s online dashboard.
North Dakota did not receive some vaccine shipments expected Tuesday or Thursday due to severe winter weather in other parts of the country, according to Department of Health spokesman Paul Teeple.
Shipments are expected to resume on Monday. They will include doses the state did not receive this week.
More than 400,000 residents of North Dakota have been tested for COVID-19 and more than 177,000 have received an initial dose of the vaccine.
