State health officials on Saturday announced 1,010 more confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases along with two more deaths, bringing the state’s death toll to 1,492 since the start of the pandemic and the total number of cases to 116,348 cases.

State corrections officials also announced on Saturday another death of an inmate who had tested positive for COVID-19 at the Two Rivers Correctional Institute in Umatilla. The man, believed to be between 50 and 60 years old, is the 23rd inmate to die after testing positive.

Vaccine administration continues to lag in Oregon as it does across the country. State health officials said 190,500 doses were given in Oregon. Yet only 45,295 doses have been administered, meaning that approximately 76% of the vaccines distributed have yet to be administered.

Corrections told staff this week that they administered 400 doses of the Moderna vaccine. Further rounds of vaccinations will not begin until Jan. 11 due to vaccine shipping schedules, the department said.

The Oregon Health Authority said statewide it had recorded 880 doses of the vaccine given on Friday, including 419 doses given on Friday and 461 previous injections that had not yet been recorded. All vaccinations took place at hospitals, long-term care facilities, EMS agencies, emergency care facilities and local health departments, the agency said.
