The Oregon Health Authority on Tuesday announced 517 new cases of COVID-19 as well as 38 new deaths, bringing the number of coronavirus deaths in the state to 2,094.
The new cases come as four people in Oregon have tested positive for COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated and enough time has passed for their second doses to become fully effective, announced Friday public health officials.
Oregon is one of the first states in the country to identify these so-called “revolutionary cases” in which people believed to be immune now have the disease. Since Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech are said to be nearly 94% or 95% effective, the rupture cases were not “unexpected,” state epidemiologist Dr. Dean Sidelinger said.
State health officials are testing samples taken from the four fully vaccinated people who have tested positive. They had no symptoms or mild symptoms.

Who is dead: The deaths are under review and will be released later, the health authority said.
The prevalence of infections: The state reported 622 new positive tests out of 19,326 tests performed on Friday, for a positivity rate of 3.2%.
Who was infected: New confirmed or suspected infections increased in the following age groups: 0-9 years (17); 10-19 (126); 20-29 (90); 30-39 (79); 40-49 (69); 50-59 (62); 60-69 (48); 70-79 (35); 80 years and over (9).
Who is in the hospital: The state reported that 202 Oregonians with confirmed coronavirus infections were hospitalized on Friday, seven fewer than Thursday. Of those, 48 coronavirus patients were in intensive care units, two fewer than Thursday.
Vaccines administered: Oregon administered 649,602 first and second doses out of 884,275 received, which represents approximately 73.5% of its supply. Oregon reported 25,772 newly administered doses, including 16,877 on Thursday and the rest of the days prior.
Since he started: Oregon has reported 149,576 confirmed or suspected infections and 2,094 deaths, among the lowest per capita figures in the country. To date, the state has reported more than 3,383,703 lab reports from testing.
