The Oregon Health Authority on Tuesday announced 529 new cases of COVID-19 as well as seven new deaths, bringing the number of coronavirus deaths in the state to 2031.
New cases come like Gov. Kate Brown has announced that restaurants, bars and breweries in the Portland metro area may reopen for indoor dining with limited capacity starting Friday.
The drop in COVID-19 cases has led Brown to move 10 Oregon counties – including Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington – from the “extreme” risk category to the “high” risk category, allowing the partial reopening of some businesses, including restaurants, gyms and cinemas for the first time since November.
Gyms in the Portland area can also reopen for indoor workouts for up to 50 people starting Friday. Brown eased restrictions on gyms a bit last month, allowing up to six clients indoors, after indoor workouts ceased across much of the state last November, as infections at coronaviruses were skyrocketing.

The 2,029th death is a 79-year-old man from Marion County who tested positive on January 25 and died on February 2 at his residence.
The 2,030th death is a 77-year-old woman from Union County who tested positive on January 22 and died on February 7 in Grande Ronde hospital.
The 2,031st death is a 44-year-old man from Hood River County who tested positive on January 25 and died on February 6. The place of death is being confirmed.
Unless stated otherwise above, each person who died had underlying health issues or state officials were working to determine if the person had any underlying medical conditions.
The prevalence of infections: On Tuesday, the state reported 622 new positive tests out of 14,063 tests performed, a positivity rate of 4.4%.
The OHA said it received around 3,000 negative lab results on February 8 from tests performed June 1 to February 2 due to a delay in reporting. Total lab results are higher for Feb. 8 than usual, but there has been no change in the percentage of positivity, the health authority said.
Who is in the hospital: The state reported that 226 Oregonians with confirmed coronavirus infections were hospitalized on Tuesday, five more than on Monday. Of those, 53 coronavirus patients were in intensive care units, two fewer than Monday.
Vaccines administered: Oregon administered 588,740 first and second doses out of 801,125 received, or about 73.5% of its supply. Oregon reported 16,340 newly administered doses, including 7,863 on Monday and the remainder of the preceding days.
Since he started: Oregon has reported 147,932 confirmed or suspected infections and 2,031 deaths, among the lowest per capita figures in the country. To date, the state has reported more than 3,328,998 lab reports from testing.
