The Oregon Health Authority reported a three-day total of 4,701 new coronavirus cases and 24 deaths on Monday, as the daily average of cases and hospitalizations continues to set records in Oregon.
The announcement included data over three days, with 2,330 cases as of Friday, 1,207 new cases as of Saturday and 1,164 new cases as of Sunday.
Oregon now has an average of more than 2,100 cases per day over the past seven days, with a 16% increase in cases from the previous week. Cases have now climbed in Oregon for seven straight weeks, but the rate of acceleration last week has slowed significantly from previous marks.
The ongoing spike, linked to the highly contagious delta variant of COVID, continues to burn across the state, with the test positivity rate over the past three days hitting just below 12%, signaling an uncontrolled spread. According to the state, 937 people are currently hospitalized for the disease, including 253 patients in intensive care. As of this morning, 47 adult intensive care beds were available out of a total of 657.
Also on Monday, Pfizer-BioNTech’s coronavirus vaccine was fully approved for anyone 16 years of age or older, making it the first vaccine to go beyond emergency status in the United States. Yet despite hospitalizations and deaths largely affecting the unvaccinated, the summer surge has done little to convince more Oregonians to shoot.

An 88-year-old man from Douglas County who tested positive on Aug. 11 and died Aug. 19 at Mercy Medical Center.
An 81-year-old woman from Deschutes County who tested positive on August 2 and died at St Charles Bend Hospital. His date of death is confirmed.
A 90-year-old woman from Curry County who tested positive on August 6 and died on August 19 at Curry General Hospital.
A 68-year-old woman from Clackamas County who tested positive on August 16 and died on August 19 at her residence.
An 84-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive on August 15 and died on August 19 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.

Each person had underlying health issues or the presence of underlying issues was confirmed.
Hospitalizations: 937 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been hospitalized, up 37 from Friday’s report. That includes 253 people in intensive care, up 22 from Friday.
Vaccines: Oregon has reported 4,491 newly administered COVID-19 vaccine doses, of which 1,032 were administered on Sunday.
From the beginning : Oregon has reported 257,644 confirmed or suspected coronavirus infections and 3,036 deaths, still among the lowest per capita numbers in the country. To date, 2,587,552 people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 2,373,947 people are fully vaccinated.
