Scottish police have arrested and charged MP Margaret Ferrier following an investigation which found Ferrier broke COVID-19 rules in September, Scottish police have said.

Ferrier traveled between Glasgow and London twice while showing symptoms of COVID-19 and, in the second case, she knew she had tested positive for the virus.

“We can confirm that police officers arrested and charged today a 60-year-old woman in connection with suspected culpable and reckless driving,” a Scottish police spokesperson said. “This follows a full Scottish Police investigation into an alleged coronavirus regulatory violation between September 26-29, 2020.”

Ferrier posted an apology on Twitter in October:

“On Monday evening, I received positive test results for COVID-19,” she wrote. “I got home by train Tuesday morning without asking for advice. It was also wrong and I am sorry. I have been self-isolating at home ever since.

Ferrier has been suspended by the Scottish National Party after reports of his offense came to light, but has so far resisted calls for his resignation.
