Costco customer denounces anti-Semitism and discrimination

A frequent customer of a New Jersey Costco has sued the wholesale store for discrimination, reports Patch. The man, Irwin Wayne Levy, said that he and his son, an employee of the same Costco, had been discriminated against because of their religion. According to the complaint filed on August 26, a Costco employee allegedly made anti-Semitic remarks to Levy when he left.

The conversation began when another employee pointed out that Levy's son was working at the store. A different employee would have gotten involved in the conversation by commenting sarcastically that she knew where Justin's beauty was coming from. She then asked, "What proportion of Justin is Jewish?" and said that he had to be more than half Jewish, "in the wrong way of course!"

At the time of leaving the store, the employee had followed him and had continued to make comments such as "Jews only see things in black and white, with no gray area, just like Justin", while by making inappropriate comments, accusations and insults about Levy, his son and their Jewish faith.

Costco Wholesale Corporation, the cashier and her direct supervisor are all defendants in the case. Levy seeks compensatory damages and reimbursement of Costco's legal fees. The prosecution is also asking Hazlet Costco to implement anti-discrimination training, anti-harassment training and civility training in the workplace.

In the lawsuit, Levy stated that he no longer felt comfortable buying in this Costco store and that he did not think that the store management "did not feel comfortable buying it. had not taken responsibility for his own obvious failings and actions of his employees ". According to Patch, the employee was not fired or punished for her actions.
