The city of Wells still does not have a city administrator, but action could be taken soon, city council members learned at their meeting on Monday, September 13.

In other staff news, the board received a letter from Jon Melby, the clerk of Wells Liquor Depot, stating that he was resigning.
“I really appreciated your confidence in taking on this position”, Melby said in the letter while thanking those who had taught and mentored him. “Thank you for this job opportunity, but I think at this time in my life it’s best for me to quit and focus on my retirement. “
The board voted to accept Melby’s resignation.
During the brief meeting, the board also passed a motion to approve salary estimate # 1, in the amount of $ 272,747, to Wencl Construction, Inc. for work being done on Fourth Street NE.
The council also considered a letter from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation regarding an application the city had submitted for a small town grant. The letter indicated that the request had not been approved for the current funding rounds. The grant would have been used to improve the ball field.
However, Scott Linde, who attended the meeting, said he raised enough money through donations and advertising to replace the dashboard at Thompson Park. He asked council to continue the process through the Parks and Recreation Commission, which council agreed to do.
City Council also passed a resolution to accept donations in the amount of $ 23,000 from the Shirley Bartholomew Foundation.
Of the total amount, $ 3,000 of donations will go to the Wells Library, $ 5,000 will go to the Wells Area Jaycees for Kernel Days, $ 5,000 has been allocated to the Wells Chamber of Commerce Kernel Days Fund and $ 10,000 has been allocated to Wells Community Ambulance.
The council also passed a resolution accepting a donation of $ 500 from the Danny Voigt Golf Memorial. It is to be used by the Wells Park Council for the installation of lights on the baseball field located at Thompson Park.
Mayor David Braun also signed a proclamation declaring October 15, 2021 Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day in honor of parents who experienced the death of a child during pregnancy or infancy.
