County crosses 10,000 COVID cases | News, Sports, Jobs

Chautauqua County has officially crossed the 10,000 COVID-19 mark. The health department announced 119 new confirmed cases of the virus over the weekend.

Most of the new cases were from the Jamestown zip code (47). Eleven were reported in Dunkirk in addition to seven in Ashville; five at Bemus Point; four each in Brocton, Falconer and Lakewood; and three each in Cassadaga, Clymer, Mayville and Ripley.

With the new cases, there have been 10,007 so far in the county. There have also been 9,587 recoveries and 163 deaths linked to the virus. A new death was reported on Monday.

As of August 1, the county has registered 663 new cases. Of these, 63% concerned people not vaccinated against the virus; 16% considered to be fully vaccinated; 5% partially vaccinated; and 17% whose vaccination status was not known.

There are currently 257 active cases, eight people infected with the virus in hospital, 448 in quarantine and a seven-day positivity rate of 9.2%.

Regarding vaccinations, 60.8% of the county’s population over 12 years of age have received at least one dose to date while 55.7% are considered fully vaccinated.
