County exceeds 22,000 total Covid-19 deaths – Deadline

Almost a year after the start of the coronavirus pandemic in Los Angeles, public health officials have confirmed more than 22,000 total deaths from Covid-19, taking the county to another grim milestone.

To date, Los Angeles County has identified a total of 22,008 deaths and 1,201,866 cases. Saturday’s coronavirus tally sees 1,823 new cases, 98 new deaths and 1,264 Angelenos currently hospitalized with the virus. As the latest statistics confirm a continued decline in the number of new cases from January’s record numbers, officials are urging Angelenos to continue doing their part.

“Today’s grim grindstone reminds us of the human toll of this pandemic and how actions are affecting cases, hospitalizations and deaths in several weeks,” said Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer. “As we move into spring and temperatures in Los Angeles County warm up, many people will be enjoying our beautiful county. I ask you to do this responsibly by avoiding large gatherings and crowds, always wearing your mask, and at this time, postponing non-essential travel. “

Coronavirus cases may be on the decline, for now, but public health officials are also warning of other cases of MIS-C in children in Los Angeles County. Authorities on Saturday reported 16 more cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome associated with Covid. Public health has reported a total of 116 children infected with MIS-C across the county. Latino children represent 75% of reported cases of MIS-C, officials said.

The latest public health coronavirus update comes as Los Angeles and Orange Counties move closer to the least restrictive red level. Los Angeles, which is currently in the state’s most restrictive purple level in the State’s Safer Economy Blueprint, may drop to red once its case rate per hundred thousand drops below 7. It is currently of 7.2 cases per hundred thousand.
