Several options remain available in Chautauqua County for those who wish to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
The county health department reminded local residents of these options on Tuesday.
“If you were waiting for full FDA approval for a COVID-19 vaccine before getting vaccinated, today is your day! the county said in a Facebook post.
The United States Food and Drug Administration on Monday gave full approval for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. According to the Associated Press, more than 200 million doses of Pfizer have been administered in the United States under emergency arrangements – and hundreds of millions more around the world – since December.
Going one step further and giving full approval, the FDA cited months of real evidence that serious side effects are extremely rare.
President Joe Biden said that for those who were hesitant to get the vaccine until he received what he has dubbed the “gold standard” FDA approval, “the moment you were waiting for is here.”
“Please get vaccinated today” he said.
In Chautauqua County, the following vaccination clinics are available:
¯ Today at the State University of New York at Fredonia Steele Hall Field House, 280 Central Ave., Fredonia, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The first and second doses of Pfizer vaccine and Johnson vaccine & Johnson will be available. No appointment is necessary, although the public can pre-register (https://chqgov.com/public-health/covid-19-vaccination-clinics).
¯ Tuesday, August 31, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Chautauqua Lake Central School Bus Garage, located at 100 N. Erie St., Mayville. First and second doses of Pfizer vaccine and Johnson & Johnson vaccine. No appointment is necessary, although the public can register in advance.
¯ Tuesday, September 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the central school bus garage in Chautauqua Lake. The first and second doses of Pfizer vaccine will be available.
¯ Tuesday, September 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Chautauqua Lake Central school bus garage. The first and second doses of Pfizer vaccine will be available.
¯ Tuesday, September 21, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Chautauqua Lake Central school bus garage. The first and second doses of Pfizer vaccine will be available.
Pharmacies in the area also carry the COVID-19 vaccine, including Concord Pharmacy in Fredonia, Pharmacy Innovations in Jamestown, CVS, Rite Aid, Tops Markets, Walgreens, Walmart and Wegmans.
Just over 60% of the county’s population over the age of 12 has received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, while 55% have been fully immunized.
34 NEW CASES REPORTED
The county health department reported 34 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, marking nearly 400 since August 1. The bulk of the new cases (18) continue to come from residents of the Jamestown zip code. Five were also reported in Dunkirk; four in Fredonia; two in Forestville and South Dayton; and one in Ashville, Kennedy and Lakewood.
There are currently 187 active cases of the virus in the county, an increase of 31 from information provided on Monday; seven people infected with the virus in hospital, no change from the previous day; 293 people in quarantine, a decrease of 30; and a seven-day positivity rate of 6.6%, a jump of 1.4% from Monday.
The level of community transmission of CDC for COVID-19 remains high.
As of August 1, the health department has registered 399 new cases. To date, there have been 9,743 total confirmed cases, 9,396 recoveries and 160 virus-related deaths.
