SAN FRANCISCO – A Hawaiian couple who traveled from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Kaua’i were arrested for boarding the flight when they knew they were HIV positive for COVID-19, announced the mayor of Kaua’i.

The man and woman are residents of Kaua’i who tested positive in pre-travel screenings ahead of their United Airlines flight out of SFO this weekend.

They are charged with reckless second degree endangerment and are currently in isolation. Contact tracing is underway to alert anyone who needs to quarantine.

Starting Wednesday, all travelers arriving in Kaua’i are subject to a 14-day self-quarantine, regardless of testing.
