COVID-19 could cause erectile dysfunction, doctor says

People infected with COVID-19 may be susceptible to long-term health effects from the virus, including erectile dysfunction in men, according to medical experts.

Infectious disease expert Dr Dena Grayson says there are now fears that the disease could affect a man’s ability to perform in the bedroom even after recovery.

“ There is real concern here that men could have long term erectile dysfunction issues from this virus because we know it causes problems in the vascular system, ” Grayson told NBC Chicago’s LX. this week.

‘This is something that is really concerning – [it’s] not only can this virus kill you, it can actually lead to long-term, potentially life-long complications, ”she added.

Although the majority of people appear to be recovering from COVID-19, Grayson warned they expected to see more “ long-term negative consequences of infection, ” over time, including complications neurological.

Earlier on Saturday, Dr Anthony Fauci warned the country should prepare for a ‘skyrocket’ in COVID cases, after millions moved over Thanksgiving and records were broken across the country.

He said Thanksgiving trips made it more likely that the country would demand temporary ‘draconian’ and ‘draconian’ measures – such as closures or the suspension of elective proceedings – to protect the country’s healthcare system .

He said the United States was facing a “ skyrocket ” of cases that are likely to continue to rise.

The magnitude of the Thanksgiving-related outbreak won’t be fully known until almost Christmas – when a new wave of cases could start again, Fauci said.

On Saturday night, the Covid Tracking Project reported 211,000 new cases nationwide and 2,445 deaths.

There are 101,190 people currently hospitalized for COVID-19 in the United States.

New data suggests that a smaller percentage of patients with COVID-19 are admitted to hospitals because the country’s health systems are overwhelmed by the staggering number of new infections.

Hospitals are forced to tighten restrictions on who are admitted, suggesting some patients who may have been hospitalized for treatment during the spring and summer surge are now being turned away as deaths from the virus increase also.

According to the researchers, the seven-day average of reported deaths from COVID-19 rose to 2,123, surpassing the previous high of 2,116 recorded on April 21.
