Scott Gottlieb, former Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, predicts that the wave of the Delta variant of COVID-19 across the United States will last only a few more weeks.

The former FDA commissioner added that the new guidelines could have a “negligible impact” in reducing the spread of the virus. Numerous surveys have shown that unvaccinated Americans, who account for the overwhelming majority of new cases, hospitalizations and deaths, are much less likely to adhere to the new guidelines than their vaccinated counterparts.
The CDC announced its new guidelines on Tuesday, urging Americans to wear masks indoors where the Delta variant is most prevalent, regardless of vaccine status. The variant is responsible for over 80% of new cases in the country and has increased in areas with low vaccination rates.
