Westchester is reporting more than 100 new cases of COVID-19 as the virus continues to climb throughout the Hudson Valley and across the state.
The State Department of Health has announced that there have been 102 new cases in the past 24 hours, after seeing single- and double-digit daily increases in new cases over the summer and earlier in autumn.
There are now 14,803 reported cases of COVID-19 in Orange County out of 254,046 tested. The overall positivity rate of 5.8 has steadily increased as the temperature continues to drop.
Two new COVID-19-related deaths have been reported in the county, with the number of virus-related deaths rising to 512.
In the Hudson Valley, the infection rate rose from 3.6% on Monday, November 9, to 3.7% on Wednesday, November 11 as cases continue to climb in the region.
The daily infection rate in Orange County over the past five days recorded, according to the state Department of Health:
- Saturday 7 November: 2,626 COVID-19 tests administered, resulting in 68 positive tests (2.6%);
- Sunday, November 8: 2,728 COVID-19 tests administered, resulting in 96 (3.5 percent) positive tests;
- Monday, November 9: 3,701 COVID-19 tests administered, with 88 positive results (2.4%);
- Tuesday November 10: 2,695 COVID-19 tests administered, with 148 positive results (5.5%);
- Wednesday November 11: 2,401 COVID-19 tests administered, resulting in 102 (4.2%) positive tests.
The seven-day infection rate in Orange County fell from 2.9% to 3.4%, while the 14-day average rose from 2.7% to 3.1% over the five last days.
“COVID is raging nationwide, setting a record high number of cases and hospitalizations with each passing day,” New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said. “While New York City does better than any state in the United States, we are not immune to the national trend.
“Now that’s what we’re doing. There is no predestined future here, ”he added. “It’s a pure consequence of our actions.

The test positivity rate in the intervention areas under the state’s micro-cluster strategy is 4.86%. The statewide positivity rate excluding these focus areas is 2.53%.
Since the start of the pandemic, New York has administered 16,231,193 COVID-19 tests, of which 545,762 were positive. A total of 26,055 New Yorkers have died since mid-March.
“If we stay in New York Tough and don’t get COVID fatigue and stay smart over the holidays, through Thanksgiving, through Christmas, through Hanukkah, we’ll keep it under control.
“New Yorkers just have to continue to take it seriously. I know it’s been a long time, but these next few weeks will be crucial and we really need people to buckle up to weather the tide. “
