COVID-19: Here’s a brand new breakdown of Orange County cases by location

Orange County is seeing a further rise in the number of new cases of COVID-19 as the positive infection rate for the virus continues to climb across the Hudson Valley.

The State Department of Health announced that there were 154 new confirmed cases in the past 24 hours in Orange County, after seeing single and double-digit daily increases in new cases over the course of summer and earlier in the fall.

There are now 15,566 confirmed COVID-19 positives reported in Orange County on more than 270,000 tests. The overall positive infection rate of 5.8 has steadily increased as the temperature continues to drop.

Two new deaths from COVID-19 have been reported in the county, with the number of deaths linked to the virus rising to 516.

The daily infection rate in Orange County over the past five days recorded, according to the state Department of Health:

  • Sunday November 14: 1,754 COVID-19 tests administered, resulting in 58 positive tests (3.3%);
  • Monday, November 15: 2,148 COVID-19 tests administered, or 101 (4.7 percent) positive tests;
  • Tuesday, November 16: 2,148 COVID-19 tests administered, or 101 positive tests (4.7%);
  • Wednesday November 17: 2,464 COVID-19 tests administered, resulting in 129 positive tests (5.2 percent);
  • Thursday, November 18: 2,403 COVID-19 tests administered, resulting in 154 positive tests (6.4%).

The seven-day infection rate in Orange County fell from 3.5% to 4.7%, while the 14-day average rose from 3.3% to 4.0% over the five last days.

Since the start of the pandemic in March, 17,386,368 New Yorkers have been tested for the virus, including 579,382 positive. The Department of Health has confirmed 26,257 deaths from COVID-19.
