Colorado continued to see an increase in new coronavirus cases and hospitalizations over the Thanksgiving vacation, with 1,682 people in hospital with COVID-19 confirmed on Friday.
The State Department of Public Health and Environment also reported 3,891 new infections as of Friday afternoon.
The agency reported 5,507 new cases of COVID-19 on Thanksgiving Day, an increase of more than 50% from the previous day, and 1,665 people in hospital with the virus.
There have been signs that the rapid transmission of the new coronavirus – which has pushed new cases and hospitalizations to record levels – is slowing. But it’s still unclear whether infections are starting to stabilize, especially as the number of new cases remains high. Public health officials fear Thanksgiving gatherings could cause an increase in cases.
The percentage of tests that came back positive in the last seven days is 11.09%. Positivity is above the recommended cutoff of 5% and means disease transmission is increasing and the increase in new cases is not just due to more testing.
