Eligibility for vaccines in California will be extended to 16-64 year olds with underlying health conditions
California is expanding the list of people eligible for the coronavirus vaccine from an additional 4 million to 6 million people. State health director Dr Mark Ghaly said on Friday that starting March 15, people aged 16 to 64 with severe disabilities and those with health conditions that put them at high risk may line up for the vaccine. San Mateo Co. to expand vaccine eligibility
San Mateo County will expand vaccine eligibility in just over a week for people in essential jobs. Starting February 22, teachers, child care providers, first responders and people working in the food and agriculture sector will be eligible. These workers are included in Phase 1-B of the California vaccination framework. Supply issues have prevented Bay Area counties from expanding vaccinations to more groups.

Fully vaccinated people can skip COVID quarantines if exposed to an infected person, CDC says
People who have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus – at this time, that means with two doses of the Pfizer / BioNTech or Moderna vaccine – can skip quarantine if exposed to someone infected with the virus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States said Wednesday. Fauci says ‘virtually anyone’ could start receiving COVID-19 vaccines in April

California high school athletes to petition Governor Newsom
Today, 100 high school athletes, some from the Bay Area, will hand over 10,000 signatures to Governor Gavin Newsom to bring the sport back immediately. At Levi’s Stadium on Tuesday, Newsom said “we are making real progress” in restarting the sport, but did not elaborate further. Only low risk sports are allowed in the purple level. Many families say that the loss of a sports season is deeply affecting the future of students.

2 cases of South African variant of COVID-19 found in bay area
Two cases of the South African variant of COVID-19 have been found in the Bay Area. One of the cases was found in Alameda County and the other in Santa Clara County, according to Governor Gavin Newsom.

SJ approves heroes’ salary, but it may take a while
There is an update on efforts to get employees at San Jose grocery stores paid. City Council approved a $ 3 per hour wage increase. It may take some time for the order to take effect. It took eight votes to get started immediately, but the board voted 7-3. This means it will have to go through the city’s normal approval process, which could take up to two months.

San Mateo Union School District to Restart In-Person Classes
The San Mateo Union School District has announced it will restart in-person classes. The Teachers Association and the school board have agreed to a phased reopening that begins when San Mateo County enters red level. SF will move to the next vaccine level in 2 weeks
San Francisco will soon move to the next phase of vaccine distribution, the mayor of London Breed said on Tuesday. The city will move to Phase 1B starting Feb. 24, Breed said. This means that teachers, babysitters, food and grocery workers, and emergency workers (including police officers) will all be eligible to receive the vaccine. Get more details here.

Santa Clara Co. limits inner worship to 20% of capacity
Santa Clara County has given the green light to hold indoor worship services. The county limits attendance to 20% of its capacity. This follows a temporary order from a US district court – saying the county is not exempt from a US Supreme Court ruling on Friday that lifted California’s ban on domestic services .

Governor Newsom speaks at San Diego Mass Vaccination Site
Gov. Gavin Newsom spoke at Petco Park in San Diego on Monday, which has been turned into a mass vaccination site. He said the state is continually stepping up the pace of its vaccine distribution as it sees its COVID-19 cases drop.
“Everything that should be in place is in place,” the governor said. “Everything that should be down is down when it comes to the number of cases, the positivity rates, the people hospitalized, the people in our intensive care unit. This is encouraging news, indeed. (But with) the vaccinations, however, we can’t go fast enough. “
Newsom said California received about 1 million doses of the vaccine last week from the federal government – a figure everyone from the “president down” acknowledges is too low.

Protest planned outside the Palo Alto school district
Parents plan to protest outside the Palo Alto school district today not to reopen schools for older students. The district reopened elementary schools to blended learning in October and plans to bring back sixth graders in March. There are no plans to bring older students back until this fall – which has many parents closing the gap with private schools. Today’s protest takes place from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Palo Alto Unified School District offices in Churchill and El Camino.

District, teachers and union agree to reopen schools in San Francisco
The union representing teachers in the San Francisco Unified School District said it has reached an agreement in principle to reopen schools amid the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the union, under the deal, schools can resume in-person learning once the city is in red and on-site staff and teachers are vaccinated. If vaccines are not available, the deal says classrooms could reopen once the city is in the orange level, once the spread of COVID-19 is considered moderate.

CA revises indoor church guidelines after Supreme Court ruling, but Santa Clara Co. continues to ban indoor gatherings
The office of California Governor Gavin Newsom released revised guidelines for indoor religious services after the Supreme Court lifted the state’s ban on indoor worship during the coronavirus pandemic, but left in place restrictions on singing and singing. California reports new cases, deaths
California reported another 12,394 COVID-19 cases on Friday and a total of 623 people have died from the virus. More than 12,000 remain hospitalized, including 3,391 in ICUs statewide. To date, California has reported a total of 3,320,862 cases of COVID-19.
