Humboldt County Public Health Division press release:
Two Humboldt County residents in their 60s have died with COVID-19, bringing the number of residents who have died with the virus to 61. The staff of the Department’s Operations Center extend their condolences to the family, friends and caregivers of the deceased.
Ninety-one new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the county today. Five cases were removed from the case tally as it was determined that they originated from another jurisdiction. The total number of residents who have tested positive for the virus now stands at 6,427.
Seven new hospitalizations were also reported, including one aged 10 to 19, one in his forties, one in his fifties, two in his sixties and two in his sixties.
The graph below shows the average weekly case rates between December 26, 2020 and August 14, 2021, in unvaccinated and fully vaccinated individuals. The data in the graph is adjusted weekly to reflect updates to the COVID-19 case database. Examples of updates include new additions to data, reclassifications of existing data, and changes in population counts.
As the graph illustrates, following the universal masking order that came into effect on August 7, case rates have fallen sharply among the 51.7% of the county’s population who are fully vaccinated. Case rates among unvaccinated members of the community remain extremely high at nearly four times the rate of the fully vaccinated population. Over the past two weeks, the percentage of the population fully vaccinated has increased by 1.1%, and most of the vaccine doses given locally were first doses, meaning more residents have started their vaccination series.
The vaccine remains widely available today and is the most effective way to prevent COVID-19. Although revolutionary cases are occurring, all available vaccines are very effective in preventing serious illness, hospitalizations and death from the virus. The vaccine is available at public health clinics located throughout the county and walk-in people are welcome. To make an appointment in advance, go to MyTurn.ca.gov.
