One hundred and twenty-one more cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Humboldt County since Friday, bringing the total number of county residents who have tested positive for the virus to 8,716. Four hospitalizations have also been reported since Friday, including two people in their fifties, one in their sixties and one in their sixties.
Humboldt County continues to be designated as an area of high transmission by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To contain the spread of the virus, public health officials are encouraging community members to wear a mask and get tested after exposure to someone with COVID-19 or if symptoms develop. Authorities are also encouraging all eligible residents to get vaccinated. As always, testing and vaccination services are provided free of charge.
Free tests are available through OptumServe seven days a week at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka and at mobile test sites across the county most days of the week. To make an appointment, visit lhi.care/covidtesting or call 888-634-1123. Processing times for test results via OptumServe average 48-96 hours.
On Wednesday October 6, the OptumServe test site at Fortuna River Lodge will be closed. Public Health will offer PCR testing at the Fortuna Senior Resource Center (2280 Newburg Road) from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm Pre-registration is required. Go to home.color.com/covid/sign-up/start?partner=cdph1060 to register.
