The death of a resident over 80 was reported by Humboldt County Public Health today, marking the 102sd local death from COVID-19. Staff at the Department’s Operations Center extend their condolences to friends, family and caregivers of those who have died.

Thirty-three new cases have also been reported in the county, bringing the total number of county residents who have tested positive for the virus to 8,798. Two hospitalizations of people in their 60s have also been reported.

Pfizer today officially submitted an application to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval of its COVID-19 vaccine for use in children aged 5 to 11. The company shared the initial data with the FDA late last month. The FDA is due to meet on October 26 to review the request.

All eligible residents of Humboldt County are encouraged to get vaccinated against the virus as the most effective way to prevent hospitalization or death. Vaccination and testing services are available free of charge in the county.
