Humboldt County Public Health Division press release:

A Humboldt County resident in his 60s has died from COVID-19. The staff of the Department’s Operations Center extend their condolences to the friends, family and caregivers of the deceased.

Two new hospitalizations were also reported, including a resident in her sixties and one over the age of 80.

A total of 7,723 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 after 30 more cases were reported today. The seven-day average case rate is 36.2, which means that per 100,000 people in the county, about 36 people have tested positive in the past seven days.

The county has recorded 386 new positive cases since the last weekly data update on September 3. Six residents died from the virus during the same period. Twelve county residents have been hospitalized over the past week. Their age groups are as follows:

• 4 people in their fifties
• 4 people in their sixties
• 2 people of 70 years old
• 2 people over 80 years old.

Although some fully vaccinated people are infected with COVID-19, health officials widely agree that vaccination is the most effective way to prevent serious consequences.

Local data continues to show that residents who are not vaccinated are much more likely to be infected with COVID-19 than those who are fully vaccinated.

The local case rate for unvaccinated people fell from a peak of 82 cases per 100,000 people last week to 67 people per 100,000 people, while the case rate for fully vaccinated people fell for a fourth consecutive week at 11 per 100,000 inhabitants. To check availability of a particular vaccine at local pharmacies, visit vaccines.gov or text zip code to 438829 to locate a pharmacy offering vaccines nearby. Most pharmacies allow walk-in visits.

Pfizer is licensed for persons 12 years of age and over, and Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are licensed for persons 18 years of age and over. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Full immunization protection is achieved two weeks after receiving the second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after receiving a single dose vaccine.
