COVID-19 vaccine given to family, including small children, instead of flu shots

EVANSVILLE, Indiana (WFIE) – A family in Evansville and their lawyer say they accidentally received full doses of Pfizer’s adult coronavirus vaccine instead of flu shots.

They say it happened on October 4th, at the Walgreens on St. Joseph Avenue.

The family of four consists of two adults and two children who are only five and four years old.

The Pfizer vaccine is not approved for children this young. They are seeking approval for children between the ages of five and 11, but the dosage is said to be one-third that of the adult dose. Pfizer has not requested permission to vaccinate children four years of age or younger.

Family lawyer Daniel Tuley shared with us what he says are the immunization cards given to the family by Walgreens.

They show that children born in 2016 and 2017 received a vaccine against the Pfizer coronavirus.

The family say they left the pharmacy thinking they had received their flu shots, but a Walgreens employee called them later and told them they had made a mistake. The lawyer tells us that the cards were then issued since the coronavirus vaccine was administered.

Tuley says the children were taken to a pediatric cardiologist and the family learned the two were showing signs of heart problems.

The family say the youngest child was sick with a fever and a cough.

14 News talks to them on Monday, and we’ll get a full report.

We contacted Walgreens on Thursday and Friday, but so far have not received any official feedback.
