COVID-19 vaccine: Texas health officials announce new vaccine locations for next shipment

Texas health officials on Sunday released a list of coronavirus “vaccination centers” that will receive the state’s next shipment of vaccine.

The 28 centers will receive 158,825 doses of the vaccine this week, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. Another 38,300 doses will go to other providers across the state.

The number of doses each provider receives is based on their own estimate of how many people they could immunize in a week, the DSHS said.

The centers are intended to streamline vaccination on a large scale as Texas continues to prioritize vaccination of people who are healthcare workers 65 and older with underlying medical conditions.

This week’s 28 hubs are located in some of the state’s largest metropolitan areas, as well as the Rio Grande Valley and more rural areas.

Announcing the plan last week, DSHS said hubs will be required to set up registration phone numbers and websites and focus on the most vulnerable communities in their regions. Contact details for the hubs are available here.
