COVID symptoms to watch out for if you’re fully vaccinated

Symptoms of COVID in fully vaccinated people may be different from those experienced by unvaccinated people, according to a recent study.

The ZOE COVID Symptom Study found that the five most common symptoms in fully vaccinated people are:

  1. Headache
  2. Runny nose
  3. sneezing
  4. Sore throat
  5. Loss of sense of smell

Unvaccinated COVID symptoms, such as persistent cough, shortness of breath, and fever, occurred less frequently in people who were fully vaccinated. The Centers for Disease Control considers a person to be fully vaccinated two weeks after their last vaccine – or only in the case of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine – against the coronavirus.

“Fewer symptoms were reported over a shorter period of time by those who had previously received a jab, suggesting they fell less seriously ill and improved faster,” the study notes.

Groundbreaking cases of COVID among vaccinated people appear to be rare. Studies show that the two-dose vaccine regimens of Moderna and Pfizer are approximately 95% effective; one Johnson & Johnson dose is approximately 66% effective. However, the CDC points out that while current data suggests that COVID vaccines offer protection against variants, fully vaccinated people can catch the virus.

“There is some evidence that vaccination can make illness less severe in people who get vaccinated but still get sick. Despite this, some fully vaccinated people will still be hospitalized and die. However, people who are fully vaccinated are much less likely to be hospitalized or die than people with similar risk factors who are not vaccinated, ”the CDC said.

The agency said it had not detected any patterns related to the vaccines or other factors contributing to the rupture cases.
