More and more reports and evidence are emerging regarding the effectiveness of nasal sprays in helping with COVID-19. So much so that a virus lab in Surrey has announced its new trials looking deeper into how it could possibly help with the new coronavirus.
The innate immune system is the first line of defense against the invasion of pathogens into the body.
Pankaj Sharma, professor of neurology and director of the Royal Holloway Cardiovascular Research Institute, said: “Any intervention to treat the coronavirus – the virus responsible for COVID-19 is to be welcomed.
“The fact that a relatively easy and simple nasal spray can be an effective treatment is good news and offers a significant advance in our therapeutic arsenal against this devastating disease.
The CEO of Ena Respiratory, Dr Christophe Demaison, said: “We were amazed at the effectiveness of our treatment.
“By stimulating the natural immune response of ferrets with our treatment, we have seen rapid eradication of the virus.
“If humans react in the same way, the benefits of treatment are twofold.
“People exposed to the virus would most likely get rid of it quickly, with treatment ensuring that the disease does not progress beyond mild symptoms.
“This is particularly relevant for vulnerable members of the community.
