A lawyer representing a student at Covington Catholic High School who sued the Washington Post for $ 250 million told Fox News on Wednesday that the expensive lawsuit "is not about money, but about the message".
Todd McMurtry, student attorney Nicholas Sandmann, spoke with Todd Starnes about a lawsuit filed Tuesday that "the plaintiff was claiming substantial damages" for allegedly targeting his client "just so the media could argue what they meant."
The lawsuit accuses the Post of "having used its vast financial resources to enter the bully's forum by publishing a series of fake and defamatory articles and articles online …" to coat a boy who, in his opinion, was an acceptable wounded man in their war against the President. "
"What we hope to accomplish with the lawsuit is obviously to get an important verdict," McMurtry said in "The Todd Starnes Show". "And the reason we want to get an important verdict is that things like those that happened to Nick did not happen to others."
Sandmann was attacked in January after a video showing that he was face to face with an American, Nathan Phillips, while he was wearing a "Make America Great Again".

Sandmann and other Covington Catholic students were charged with initiating the altercation and intimidating Phillips; however, other videos showed that the students were verbally accosted by a group of black street preachers who shouted insults and a group of Native Americans.
McMurtry said the only truth reported by The Post was the Make America Great Again hat that his client wore – and he said that was the reason they sued him.

"I mean Nick is 16 years old. He did not even tell me what his political affiliation was and no one really knows what their political affiliation will be when they turn 16, but since he was wearing this hat, he was used as … you know .. as a victim of media scorn, just so the media could explain what they meant. Sandmann's lawyers are seeking $ 50 million in compensatory damages, damages for emotional distress and reputation, and $ 200 million in punitive damages.
McMurtry says that the expensive lawsuit is the only way to send a message that will help protect others from similar mistreatment in the future.
