COLUMBUS, Ind. – A spike in COVID-19 cases in and around Bartholomew County has led to a record number of hospitalizations at the Columbus Regional Hospital.
The increase in the number of patients prompted the hospital to convert single rooms to double rooms in its COVID unit, the hospital said.
There were 27 people hospitalized with COVID-19 at CRH on Monday – the highest level seen during the pandemic and surpassing the previous high of 22, the hospital said.
As of Tuesday morning, 23 patients were hospitalized for COVID-19, marking the fifth day in a row with at least 20 patients hospitalized with coronavirus infections.
One patient was in critical condition Tuesday morning with the remaining 22 in stable condition, the hospital said.
Twelve of the patients were residents of Bartholomew County, six were residents of Jennings County, two were residents of Decatur County, and the other three patients were residents of Brown, Jackson and Madison counties.
