Gunshot suspected of theft, killed in Bricktown

Oklahoma City Police continue to investigate a robbery and shooting that left one dead on August 23 outside the Harkins Theater in Bricktown.

Police learned that Travis Prince, 22, pointed a gun at Christopher Cooper, 36, as he attempted to steal it. However, Cooper drew his own gun in self-defense and fired several shots that hit and killed the would-be thief. Prince died at the scene, police said.

Cooper was questioned by homicide detectives and later released. The robbery and shooting took place shortly before 10 p.m. at 150 E. Reno Ave.

NOTE: The investigation is ongoing, a police spokeswoman said in late August. Anyone with additional information about the shooting should call the Homicide Information Line at 405-297-1200.

Candidate Paul Tay officially charged with sexual assault

TULSA – Prosecutors have formally charged a candidate for governor who was arrested on August 23 for rape and kidnapping.

Paul Tay, 58, was arrested by police after allegedly taking a woman against her will to his home and sexually assaulting her.

Police said the victim in the case, a potential campaign worker, had contacted Tay for a position on his team.

Tay allegedly sexually assaulted his victim with a lead pipe.

The victim was able to escape from Tay when he took her to a neighborhood Walmart market where she was able to contact authorities.

Tay is charged with 1st degree rape by instrumentation, kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon

Tay remains in the Tulsa County Jail. He is due to return to court for a preliminary hearing in October.

Tay is no stranger to politics, having run for mayor of Tulsa in 2016 when he allegedly disrupted a televised debate he was not invited to.

In 2019, Tay was arrested by police for making threatening statements to a woman in Tulsa City Council, and in 2020 he was arrested for soliciting prostitution.

Paul Tay, a candidate for governor of Tulsa, has been formally charged with assaulting a woman who responded to an ad seeking a campaign aide.
