As Democrats and White House allies try to make the evacuation from Afghanistan a success on Monday, social media critics criticized the president for breaking his promise to stay in the country until every American be evacuated.

Marine Corps Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr. announced Monday evening that the last of the United States troops stationed at Kabul airport had left a day before Biden’s deadline, completing the army’s withdrawal from the country – though hundreds of Americans are likely to be left behind.

Criticism was quick to resurface in President Biden’s ABC News interview with George Stephanopoulos earlier this month, where he pledged that “if there are any US citizens left, we will stay and do them all. go out”.

“I guess Biden has changed his mind,” wrote Thiel Capital, chief operating officer and Arizona Senate candidate Blake Masters, alongside an excerpt from the ABC interview.

“Biden promised the Taliban he would leave by 08/31. Biden promised the Americans that no one would be left behind. Guess what promise Biden kept?” Freelance journalist Chris Tremoglie wrote, accusing that “over 81 million Americans voted for a president to abandon Americans in hostile territory.”

Stephen L. Miller, host of “Media Podcast,” wondered where the fact-checkers who stalked former President Donald Trump were hiding throughout his presidency.

“Ah, I guess Daniel Dale and Kessler are too busy checking the jokes on Twitter about his falling asleep to verify these things,” he wrote.

Hugh Hewitt, MSNBC contributor and Washington Post columnist, accused Biden of “abandoning the Americans.” “Incredible,” he said.

“America needed leadership and all Biden gave us was lies,” Oklahoma Representative Markwayne Mullin said. “He has turned his back on the Americans and our allies still stranded in Afghanistan. What happened to any man left behind? This administration should be held responsible for this utter and utter failure.”

National Review editor Rich Lowry noted that “Biden kept his promise to the Taliban to leave Afghanistan by August 31; he broke his promise to the Americans to get them all out before he left ”.
