Attorney General candidate Merrick Garland has repeatedly “dodged” questions from Republican senators during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Ted Cruz of R-Texas told “Hannity” on Monday.
“He has a reputation for being relatively non-partisan as a judge,” Cruz told Sean Hannity, “[but] I will say the hearing was frustrating as it went today as he basically dodged all the questions. He refused to answer any questions. He responded as a judicial candidate and not as a candidate for the post of attorney general. “
Garland avoided responding directly to Cruz’s questions regarding Durham’s investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia inquiry, Second Amendment protection, and whether illegal border crossing should be a criminal offense.
“It was a really disappointing performance overall,” said Cruz, “because he wouldn’t be blunt, he wouldn’t be available.”

Cruz also joined the conservative chorus expressing their opposition to Xavier Becerra, Biden’s candidate for secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. The senator described Becerra as an “extremist” who would carry a radically liberal agenda if confirmed.

“The Biden administration likes to talk [how] they’re science-based and their priority to stop COVID, well… he’s not a doctor, ”said Cruz, highlighting Becerra’s journey as a trial lawyer.
“If a Republican appoints a trial lawyer to lead [the] Department of Health and Human Services in the midst of a global pandemic, they would laugh in the room because that would be absurd, ”said Cruz.

“And yet the Biden government is focused on paying off liberal special interest, not on the basis of science and beating the pandemic.”
As for the media reaction to his family vacation in Cancun which made headlines this weekend, Cruz said clearly, “I think the media is suffering from Trump’s withdrawal, where they have been attacking Trump every day for four. years old they don’t know what to do so they are obsessed with my taking the girls to the beach. “
