On Monday morning, nine protesters gathered outside the Titan Letters near the Titan Student Union to protest Cal State Fullerton’s vaccine requirement.
The vaccination mandate states that all faculty, staff and students at CSU must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 30.
Turning Point USA at CSUF hosted the protest on campus. The protesters were there to “fight for medical freedom and privacy,” according to the group’s Instagram post.
Protesters refused to speak to a Daily Titan reporter.
CSU policy states that in order to access campus and participate in campus programs, individuals must be fully immunized by the deadline, according to the Titans Return website. People who are not fully vaccinated must have an approved medical or religious exemption.
A student at the protest held up a sign showing screenshots of texts from the university.
The text messages indicated that the student would lose access to the portal if he had not started downloading his vaccination record or his exemption request as of Monday.

A similar notice appeared on Canvas last week, but has since been removed from the website.
Marcos Zelada-Rodas, CSUF student and section president of TPUSA, told the Daily Titan in an email that the texts shown had been sent to CSUF students, but the administration later reversed its decision and no one has been excluded from the web.
“We are grateful and hope this is a sign of progress,” Zelada-Rodas said.
He added that the group will continue to organize protests and events in a peaceful manner to make its voice heard and its dissatisfaction with the vaccine’s mandate heard.
“We are NOT anti-vaccines. We support anyone who wants to be vaccinated. In the same way that we support anyone who chooses not to do so for various reasons, ”said Zelada-Rodas. “We see medical discrimination and segregation all around us. The CSU system and the administrative mandates of the CSUF are contrary to what we believe in. We believe in medical freedom.
Zelada-Rodas said that each organized protest included people from different political parties and different vaccination statuses. The students also come from diverse backgrounds and will continue to advocate for medical freedom and medical confidentiality, Zelada-Rodas said.
“We will continue until changes are made. It may take a week, it may take a year or even a lifetime, but we will always stand up for what is right and continue to organize different events and demonstrations, ”said Zelada-Rodas.
