United States Representative Elise Stefanik, RN.Y., on Sunday challenged the Democratic-led New York State Assembly to stop the “slow-moving” impeachment of Governor Andrew Cuomo, who according to she, uses “time as its ally” after spending years “bullying” other state lawmakers to her own political advantage.
Stefanik, who chairs the House GOP conference, said during an appearance on Sunday Morning Futures that every voter must hold their elected official accountable to move forward now that independent investigators appointed by New York Attorney General Letitia James , spoke to more than 175 witnesses and their reports included more than 74,000 pieces of evidence demonstrating that the governor had violated federal and state laws.
Cuomo himself called for the investigation, Stefanik pointed out, and in doing so, the governor said “he has full confidence in this investigation” – but now he still hasn’t resigned.

“He must be impeached. Albany Democrats are moving slowly so far,” Stefanik told “Sunday Morning Futures” host Maria Bartiromo. “We have reached a breaking point. We need to make sure there is equal justice under the law. And whether you are the most powerful elected official in New York State, the laws apply. to you and all other New Yorkers. ”
It comes after Cuomo’s personal attorney, Rita Glavin, in attempting to downplay the report’s findings, said at a press conference on Saturday that Cuomo is 63, has spent 40 years in public life, and ” for him suddenly being accused of a sexual assault on an executive assistant that he really does not know, does not pass successfully. ”

Ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, Stefanik also discussed “the erosion of our civil liberties” after New York Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio demanded vaccination passports to enter the restaurants and gyms, as well as what she described as “politicizing the CDC” with mask warrants for schoolchildren despite some seriously ill young people from COVID-19. She said Republicans must do everything to ensure the integrity of elections and fight universal mail in ballots without signature verification and voter photo identification.
