Curt Casali and stable paddock propel Giants to 2-0 win over Braves

One night after a dramatic overtime win, the Giants took an easier route to a 2-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night at Oracle Park.

Catcher Curt Casali scored the only two points of the game, leading LaMonte Wade Jr. and Brandon Crawford with a single to right field from Braves starter Charlie Morton in the fourth inning.

Alex Wood was activated from the COVID-19 injured list before the game and threw three scoreless innings in his first appearance since August 26. He allowed no hits and allowed no walks while striking out four. The left-hander threw 37 shots on the exit.

Six Giants relievers followed Wood and kept the Braves down, helping the Giants win their second straight game. Dominic Leone allowed a single in the ninth, but induced a double play to end the game and recover his second stoppage of the season.

Steven Duggar kept the Braves off the board in the fourth inning with incredible effort on a ball hit by Jorge Soler. The center fielder failed to catch up, but prevented it from being a home run. Soler had to settle for a brace, and despite Freddie Freeman’s single on the next strike at bat, Zack Littell struck out the next three batters to block Soler and Freeman.

The win, their 97th of the season, allowed the Giants to maintain their two-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Western NL with 13 games remaining in the regular season.
