CD Projekt, the company behind Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, was targeted on Monday in a major “cyberattack”, according to a statement posted on Twitter. Hackers allegedly stole “some data belonging to the capital group CD Projekt,” CD Projekt said. The company said it is currently securing its servers and restoring encrypted data.
In the ransom note released by CD Projekt, the hackers claimed to have stolen the source code for Cyberpunk 2077, The witcher 3, Gwent, and “the unpublished version of Witcher 3. “The group said it also accessed” documents relating to accounting, administration, legal, human resources, [and] Investor Relations. ”CD Projekt did not confirm the stolen data, but said in its statement that no personal user data for any of its services had been compromised.

The hackers gave CD Projekt 48 hours to initiate contact before “the source code was sold or leaked online.”
“Your public image will decrease even more and people will see how you [sic] shit, your business is running, ”the hacker said in the note. “Investors will lose faith in your business and the stock will plunge even lower.”
CD Projekt has said it will not negotiate with the pirates. He said he is aware that “compromised data” could be disclosed, and the company “is taking the necessary steps to mitigate the consequences of such a publication.” CD Projekt is working with authorities and “computer forensics” to investigate the hack.
Monday’s hack follows a tough launch for Cyberpunk 2077, the highly anticipated title released in December 2020. The game launched with a host of performance issues, especially on the latest generation consoles. CD Projekt and other storefronts were forced to offer refunds for the game, which was later removed from Sony’s PlayStation Store. CD Projekt is also facing several class actions from investors.
Ahead of Cyberpunk 2077At launch, the company was criticized for “mismanagement and contempt for the people who make our games,” as well as a transphobic marketing story.
The heads of CD Projekt’s studio have since apologized for the disrupted launch.
“We have ignored the signals about the need for additional time to fine tune the game on the next-gen base consoles,” Adam Kiciński, CD Projekt co-CEO said in December. “It was the wrong approach and against our business philosophy.”
CD Projekt Red, the development arm of the company, has released fixes and fixes for Cyberpunk 2077. Major updates will arrive later this year, the developer said.
