Last night CD Projekt Red released the first major update for its troubled open world shooter, Cyberpunk 2077. “Major” is a relative term. Although bigger than previous updatesyesterday patch 1.1 focuses more on stability fixes than a complete overhaul. In fact, it may have even made the game worse – introducing a potentially groundbreaking bug.
Patch 1.1 fixes an issue in the “Down on the Street” mission where Takemura would not call, preventing further progress in the mission. He will call now Apparently, but then I won’t say a word. Some users say that reloading old backups or creating new backup files doesn’t solve the problem either.
There is at least one apparent workaround. First try to call Judy before Takemura calls. When it does, hang up the line, then take on side work. (The player who reported this workaround tackled a side quest from Delamain.) Wait 24 hours in the game and Takemura should call – with dialogue and all – allowing you to progress through “Down on the Street.” .

I’m playing Cyberpunk 2077 on an Xbox Series X, where it performs better than it seems on the latest generation consoles but not, as one of my roommates likes to remind me so often, as well as on his high-end equipment. Still, I have encountered bugs since day one. Usually these are garden-type hiccups: NPCs floating through the air in a way they shouldn’t, or a weapon refusing to reload even though I hit “X”, like, eighteen times. Small potatoes.

The bug that soured me in the game appeared during the side quest “Stadium Love”, in which you meet a group of veterans, throw bad shots of vodka like you are at a bad frat party (“Qu ‘is that, rubbing alcohol?’ asks V), then enter a shooting competition. In one attempt, I couldn’t get my gun out – pretty much an instant DQ in a barrage. In another case I was, but all the veterans around me got rid of theirs and started shooting at me. It sucked too. I decided to suspend the game until let it be in better condition.
“Stadium Love” is not among the dozen quests discussed yesterdaypatch 1.1 of. Against my best judgment, after downloading the 16.5GB (!!!) update, I started the quest again. I was able to draw my gun without any problem. I have always been shot. So not perfect.
The CDPR says yesterday’s update fixes an issue with the “M’ap Tann Pèlen” quest, where players could run into a roadblock while trying to speak to Mr. Hands’ character on the phone. I had no problem doing this today, but I hadn’t tried the quest at all before downloading patch 1.1. Who knows if I would have run into a problem, say, three weeks ago.
In general, after spending a bit of time with the game last night, I can tell it feels pretty much exactly the way it did before I put it down. Maybe those on the latest generation consoles see more benefits. Right now, social media appears to be loud, with news outlets noting that the fix exists or players pointing out how thin the ratings look. CDPR said this patch is “focused on various stability improvements and bug fixes” and “lays the groundwork for future fixes”. The next one is expected in February, by A declaration from December.
Ten days ago, the CDPR released a video indicating that the January Big Update would be released within ten days. YesterdayPatch 1.1, in the most technical sense of the term, hits this target. These are indeed updates that indeed resolve some issues with the game. It also landed at 5:00 p.m. ET (10:00 p.m. Warsaw time) on a Friday. Do whatever you want with it.
East Cyberpunk 2077 “Alright” now, the way No Man’s Sky made its way to greatness? Not yet. But it’s a small step in the right direction. I can’t wait to see the rest.
