COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reported 4,117 new cases of COVID-19 and 277 new hospitalizations in the state today, the highest number in a single day since well before the vaccine is not widely available.
Ohio has not seen a daily number of COVID-19 cases greater than 4,000 since mid-January, and day-long hospitalizations have not been as high as figures reported on Tuesday since January 4 , when a peak of 360 hospitalizations was reported.
Key indicators
The number of new cases today is significantly higher than the daily 21-day rolling average, which is currently 2,623. These figures include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that respond to the test. CDC’s definition of probable. There have been 986,421 confirmed cases of COVID-19 to date, representing 83% of the total cases.
To date, a total of 122,407 coronavirus cases have been reported in Cuyahoga County.
There have now been 20,729 coronavirus-related deaths across the state. Forty COVID-19-related deaths were reported on Tuesday, which includes deaths reported after last Friday, when 41 deaths were reported.
As other states do not regularly send death certificates of Ohioans who died out of state to the Office of Vital Statistics at the ODH, the mortality data provided by Ohio will continue to fluctuate and these deaths will be attributed to. their appropriate dates.
The number of “breakthrough” hospitalizations and deaths – those that have occurred among fully vaccinated Ohioans – remains extremely low. As of January 1 of this year, 19,749 unvaccinated people have been hospitalized for COVID-19, compared to 407 hospitalizations of fully vaccinated people. This equates to 97.98% of hospitalizations among unvaccinated people in Ohio this year.
There have been 6,965 COVID-19-related deaths among unvaccinated people and 71 among those who have been vaccinated, meaning that 98.99% of those who have died from COVID since January were unvaccinated.

To date, 1,113,383 Ohioans are believed to be cured of the disease, according to the ODH.
The median age of patients is 41 years, with the age range of infected patients ranging from less than 1 year to 111 years.

Hospitalizations
The ODH reported 277 new hospitalizations today, with 29 intensive care admissions. There are currently 2,095 COVID-19 patients in Ohio hospitals and 610 COVID-19 patients in intensive care.

Non-COVID patients currently occupy 69.1% of state hospital beds, according to the ODH. COVID-positive patients represent 7.7%, leaving 23.2% of beds currently available. The number of COVID-19 patients in Ohio hospitals has steadily increased and is almost double what it was on August 11.
COVID patients make up 12.7% of the state’s intensive care beds, non-COVID patients occupy 61.43% of intensive care beds, and 25.87% of intensive care beds are currently open.

To date, the COVID-19 vaccine has been launched in 6,002,058 people in Ohio, or 51.35% of the state’s population. The vaccine was started in 10,221 people in the past 24 hours, which is comparable to one-day vaccinations in recent days.

Vaccination against COVID-19 has been carried out on a total of 5,545,643 people, or 47.44% of the state’s population. In the past 24 hours, the vaccine has been completed in 6,973 people.

There were 21,149 tests performed on August 22, the last day this ODH data was available. Of these tests, 12% were positive, compared to the 7-day rolling average positivity rate of 7%. The number of daily COVID tests performed and the positivity rate in Ohio have steadily increased since early July.
