FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys will have a different kind of cinematic session after practice on Wednesday.
The Cowboys will watch the Pittsburgh Steelers-Baltimore Ravens game by position groups at The Star in preparation for their meeting against the Ravens next Tuesday.
“To be able to see them play live, I think it will be a little advantage if we do it together,” said coach Mike McCarthy. “I thought it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. We’ve all watched Monday night games before, but you rarely get a chance to watch a game live after two days of preparation.”
The Cowboys have enough room at the Star and the Ford Center to continue following NFL COVID-19 protocols to have in-person meetings. The Star was closed Monday and Tuesday, under league rules, but the team have virtually held their first meetings for Baltimore and will go through lighter-than-normal training on Wednesday.
The Steelers and Ravens start Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. ET.
“Basically, all of us in the NFL, you are who you conceptually are. You’re going to attack your opponent from a similar platform, but the use of staff is really the issue that we’re obviously going to be looking at today when they’ll play in Pittsburgh. ”McCarthy said.“ But I have a feeling our personnel department has done a really good job of trying to keep up with the personnel who might be next week and so on. That is really what will be the big question as we move forward. by playing this process we are on the second day. “
On Thursday, the Cowboys will participate in a virtual memorial service for strength and conditioning coordinator Markus Paul, who passed away last week. Paul’s family will be at church for the service.
“[Thursday] will be more dedicated to Markus Paul, then after that we will try to get into the normal flow of a normal game plan week as we prepare for Baltimore, ”said McCarthy.
The Cowboys were originally scheduled to play in Baltimore on Thursday, but due to the Ravens’ COVID outbreak, the game was moved to Tuesday. The Cowboys kick off at 1 p.m. ET the following week at the Cincinnati Bengals, which could be seen as a disadvantage.
“I think of it as the state of the times. Some people can be upset. It’s totally something none of us can control,” McCarthy said. “I spent more time trying to put together the right schedule. We spent most of our team time making sure the preparation was right. You can over-prepare for games. That is. something you have to guard against.
“There are so many moving targets here because of the state the league is in. Our perspective is that we have to be ready to play any day of the week. That’s our state of mind. As the staff it’s our job the team has trained and prepared to win a football match no matter what day it was played. That’s the state of mind in which we are now. “
