Waitress receives $ 2K tip but restaurant refuses to give her a dime

A waitress from Texas says she was thrilled to receive a $ 2,000 tip on a bill – only to find out from the restaurant that she won’t take home a single penny.

Emily Bauer had only been a waiter for about two weeks when she was scheduled for a busy Sunday shift at Red Hook Seafood and Bar in San Antonio, the KVUE news station reported.

While working at all the tables, she continued to apologize to a man sitting in her section for “being slow”.

“He was just like, ‘I get it.’ He also mentioned that he owned restaurants so he knew how difficult it was to be a waiter, ”said Bauer.

“He was like, ‘Just undo it. Cancel everything and give me the ticket. So I said okay. I gave him the ticket.

Bauer said she didn’t notice until he left that he had tip her $ 2,000 and wrote a note saying, “Merry Christmas! Keep working hard! “

“I was like, wait. I just opened it and started to cry. I was like, ‘Oh my God! My children! I’m going to spend it all on my kids, ”said Bauer, who has two sons, a 2-year-old and a 5-month-old.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God. I never had a Christmas where I enjoyed splurging with them. ”

But she said her enthusiasm was quickly dashed when the restaurant told her it couldn’t handle a tip over $ 500.

Other waiters suggested the restaurant give him four separate $ 500 tips, but the seafood restaurant declined, KVUE reported.

It’s unclear why the restaurant couldn’t process the $ 500 of the $ 2,000 tip to give Bauer, within its limits.

“I don’t think it’s our responsibility as a waiter to say, ‘Oh, you can’t tip me, I’m sorry. Oh no, there is a limit, I’m sorry, ”Bauer said.

“If this is the case, there should be signs on the restaurants or on the receipt to indicate that there is a limit of $ 500.”

Bauer said the customer learned she wouldn’t get the tip and called the restaurant to express his disappointment, KVUE reported.

When she asked to call him to express her gratitude, her manager said her information had not been deleted, the outlet reported.

Instead, she shared the post on Facebook in the hopes that it would reach the customer.

“Even though I can’t receive it, thank you. Thank you for having such a big heart, ”said Bauer.

The restaurant did not respond to a request for comment, KVUE reported.
