Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 7200 block of Valley Glen Drive around 6:40 am Saturday, announced Dallas Police Commander Vincent Weddington.

"Upon arrival, the police found the plaintiff lying face down on the street – dead as a result of domestic violence," said Weddington at a press conference Sunday.

The woman did not have an identity, but the medical examiner identified her as Muhlaysia Booker on Sunday afternoon, he told reporters.

In another incident in April, Booker had been assaulted by several men in the parking lot of a building in Dallas after police had described a minor road accident.

The victim was attacked separately in April

A man, Edward Thomas, was arrested and faces charges for the April 12 assault, but Weddington said that Thomas had not been linked to Booker's death.

"There is nothing for the moment that links Mr. Edward Thomas to the offense committed yesterday," he said. The police do not know where Thomas is now.

Police are still trying to identify other people who participated in the April attack, which was captured on video, said Weddington. The suspects reportedly used homophobic insults and the attack was described as a hate crime.

On Sunday, Weddington encouraged members of the public with information on one or the other case "to submit information to end these two offenses".
