Dane County reaches ‘high’ level of community transmission for COVID-19

MADISON, Wisconsin – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has designated Dane County with the highest level of community transmission for COVID-19.

As Dane County hit a “high” level on Thursday, the Daily Update shows Rock County has been downgraded to a “substantial” transmission level. Dane County first reached “substantial” level almost a week ago.

The CDC has recommended anyone in counties with “substantial” or “high” levels wear masks indoors. Dane County public health officials have also encouraged the use of masks, but no county-wide mandate has yet been implemented.

Other counties with “substantial” levels include Rock, Columbia, Dodge, Jefferson, Iowa, and Richland, while Sauk and Walworth counties have been upgraded to “high” levels. The majority of counties with “high” transmission levels are in the southeastern part of the state.

The state’s health services department on Thursday confirmed 1,573 new cases of the virus, with the state’s seven-day moving average of new cases reaching 1,000.
